If you have reached the age of 70 ½ and have a traditional IRA, you must begin taking a required minimum distribution (RMD). Under the IRS rules, you may transfer your RMD directly to a qualified charity of your choice. This is called a QCD or Qualified Charitable Distribution. By doing this, the distribution from your IRA account is not included on your tax return (1040) as taxable income. Here at Adult & Teen Challenge MidSouth we call those RMDs by another name. We refer to them as required MIRACLE distributions. Can there be anything more gratifying than diverting funds that would have gone to the government into a ministry that is on the front lines of both fighting the opioid epidemic and helping provide the MIRACLE of FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION through a relationship with Jesus Christ. This is a great way for you to continue supporting us at Adult & Teen Challenge MidSouth AND meet the RMD requirement for 2018. We encourage you to discuss the possibility of a QCD contribution with your financial/tax advisor.
